The coaches recruit the players, so it is a coaching problem

No matter how talented the staff they still need the stud players to execute the game plan, if they aren't recruiting well enough then sure it falls on the staff. I really can't understand Cornell's problem, unless the admissions office is not cooperating with the coaches.

What happened last year? Knowles had a recruiting class that had more than 10 All State first teamers as seniors. It's not all the kids.

That's a good point Redad, I agree great things were expected out of that class.

But you have to sustain recruiting, it's not about just bringing in one good class.

Last years class included two time All Ivy running back Luke Siwula and the guy barely played last season. What happened?

Through six games, Cornell has only 637 total yards rushing, BUT 284 of those yards came late in the game in a losing effort to Fordham. Our starting running back Randy Barbour is second to scrambling part-time QB Stephen Liuzza. Barbour to date has only 179 total yards rushing on 69 attempts. Ed Marinaro averaged about that many yards PER GAME over his entire career!!! We struggled with our running game last season, but we continue to run the ball out of this crazy spread option offense. We didn't run the ball well against Hobart last summer, then why would we run the same offense against the best of the Ivy and Patriot League?

Word of advise, find someone on your roster who can play fullback, line up in the I or power I formation, ram it through for a first down now and then. For God's sake, Ithaca High School could have run for 39 yards against Brown. Really!

Knowles sold his soul to bring in his buddy Barnham after 2006 season. He got rid of Carlin and Coon as OC and OL coach and lost Rahne and Kavanagh to bring in this OFFENSE???? The 2005 offense was one of the most prolific in school history and they were getting ready to have a talented class of Juniors in the 2007 season. He should have never messed with this group, but he shuffled his entire staff and came up with the last three years of horrible football. He should be held accountable.

I wonder if the AD will give Knowles more leeway given he's a Cornell grad, although I think 6 years is a pretty long period to judge performance. However, with the exception of the quick hook on Pendergast they don't usually repsond that fast to letting a coach go.

I beg to differ. Jack Fouts was given only 1 year. George Seifert was fired after two. A number of years ago, the Sports Editor of the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin ,John Fox, (Now retired) called Cornell a football coaches' graveyard.

Bob you were correct about Fouts and Seifert but I was talking about under the current AD Andy Noel.

Cornell is not a football coach's grave yard. Jim Hofher went on to coach at IA Buffalo, Ron Prince became the head coach at Kansas State, and Pete Mangurian is coaching in the NFL with a Super Bowl ring from the Patriots. Maxie Baughn is now in the College Football Hall of Fame. Hardly a grave yard!

Cornell has some of the best football facilities in all of the Division I playoff division. There's absolutely no reason why we can't win in Ithaca. We have one of the best Ag schools in the world and we should be going after more kids from big Ag states like Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio, Florida, and California. We should have the best offensive line in the Ivy League every season!!!

You would think that may be true but Cornell is not an easy school to recruit for bball and all they have done is win the Ivy title 2 times (soon to be 3 ) in a row.
