Yale vs Princeton should be a good matchup. Let's go Yale!

Does Cornell get in even if they don't win the Ivy Tournament? What about Princeton and Yale?

I think the Big Red get in with at least a win over Penn.

One interesting if flawed way to look at it is to check the oft-maligned NCAA RPI as opposed to the voted rankings.

The bean counters have all four in the top thirteen, with only five other at-large candidates rated higher. That would put ALL FOUR into the tourney with three as at-larges. So it’s cretainly defensible.

Ain’t gonna happen, of course.

What woukd you say if a team needed to beat an opponent to get into the league tournament with a chance to get to the NCAAs if they defeated their heavily favored opponent by 5 goals notwithstanding disappponting losses during the season, then was leading by 6 or 7 late in the game, but the coach never told the players about the 5 goal requirement and the team surrendered a few garbage goals to eventually win by 3 and miss the tournament?

I would say that describes the UNC coach yesterday.

What?! That's coaching malpractice.

Reminds me of the Harvard-Princeton game last year when the Tigers needed to beat the Crimson by four to make the Ivy tournament. Princeton I recall kept their foot on the pedal the entire game knowing that winning by three was equivalent to a loss.

Or something like that. I'm sure that I've got the details wrong, but Princeton was focused on covering the spread, if you know what I mean.

Yes, Sat/Sun have a 40-50% chance of rain showers, so it maybe they'll be lucky enough to get the championship game in without rain, I hope so.

And if it does rain, we can't say the teams haven't had enough experience in such conditions this spring.

Tremendously successful D3 coach who never quite panned out as I thought he might.

I am not sure Mike resigned. I think he was asked to. At any rate, it is interesting to note that he was highly successful at Tufts but only mediocre at Brown. No doubt it had a lot to do with the fierce competition for top level players. Some 40 years ago Brown always excelled at Lacrosse, but in those days many of the ivy teams did not attempt to field championship teams. They field participatory teams. Thus, Brown was successful. But all that began to change in the 1990s and now lacrosse is a highly competitive endeavor. Perhaps even more so than baseball. Mike's record at Tufts says he really knows the game, but recruiting is the name of the game at the D-1 level, and Mike just didn't measure up. As a Brown alum, it is encouraging to see Calhoun act quickly. For too many years, ineffective coaches have been allowed to continue to the dismay of all who care, especially the players. Now she has to turn her attention to Whittet, Achilles, and the guy coaching men's tennis. By the way, Brown has not won an ivy tennis match in years, and this year they only won one individual match...an embarrassment to all involved.

I would expect the search will focus on Div 1 assistants on the staffs of some of the better lacrosse programs.

I think this is the first time Cornell has hosted the Ivy League Tournament at Schoellkopf Field. Weather looks good tomorrow in the 60's to mid-70's range.

Princeton vs. Yale at 6 pm
Cornell vs. Penn at 8:30 pm

All on ESPNU.

Go Big Red!
