The former Dartmouth star had a fine MLB career, winning a World Series with the Cubs.

While Kyle Hendricks did not have outstanding velocity, he was an amazing control and command pitcher. In 2016, he led the National League in ERA and helped the Cubbies win their first World Series Championship in over 100 years. Kyle got the most of his skills to become an accomplished pitcher for 12 MLB seasons.

Kyle reminded me of another Big Green star pitcher, Mike Remlinger, who was a similar control pitcher for 14 seasons in the MLB. Mike loved following Kyle's career, especially since they both spent time pitching for the Cubbies.

I thought he might become another Greg Maddux.

Alas, he wasn't THAT good. :)

Probably more than any other professional athlete from Dartmouth.

GG, I also think Hendrix’ pitching style reminded me of Maddux.

While Greg Maddux did earn a Cy Young award during his time with the Cubs, Kyle Hendrix did accomplish something that even the great Hall of Famer Maddux could not accomplish with the Cubs. Kyle was a leader on the team the broke the "Curse of the Billy Goat" that was reputed to be the reason that the Cubs could not win a World Series until 2016. Hendrix always will be a beloved legend in Chicago for his role in breaking the dreaded Curse of the Billy Goat.

In an interview long after the 1999 hit Nike commercial featuring Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and Heather Locklear whose famous tag line was, "Chicks Dig The Long Ball," Maddux appeared to take credit for coming up with the iconic slogan.

Glavine and Locklear would have none of it, both quickly issuing statements that the line was in the script and not improvised by any of the actors.

Why you ole hound dog. Thought process:

Reminiscing about old girlfriends I once “dated”

Hendrix - interesting topic. He played for Dartmouth. Met his father once at the casino

Maddux - hmmm didn’t he appear in an ad w that smoke show Heather Locklear?

Heather - didn’t she date Charlie Sheen?

Back to baseball ( but unrelated to Hendrix) - didn’t Maddux and Glavine appear in that Chicks dig the long ball spot in 1999?

Heather - boy she was some smoke show back in the day…….
