In reply to: Rankings... 's message, "The Sporting News 2008 Pre-Season Ivy League Rankings" on 07:06:37 06/23/08 Mon

No surprise there in terms of Harvard and Yale being on top. Of course I would like to see Cornell ranked higher than sixth in the league. However, I don't put a lot of stock in Ivy League rankings as the league is still very balanced, which means a Brown, Penn, Dartmouth, or Cornell could get lucky and make a run. My prediction this year is there will be a two to three way tie at the top.

Last season, everyone thought Yale was going to "run the table" and then they got blown out by Harvard. Colgate beats Dartmouth, Cornell knocks off Colgate, and then Dartmouth brings in the Air Force against Cornell. Go figure???

If you don't want "inter-Ivy scrimmages," then you might as well declare no scrimmages. Everyone else is already in the middle of their seasons by the time we're ready for a scrimmage, that its just not possible to do it except with each other. And given that most opponents will already have a few games under their belts (Colgate will have already played three games before Dartmouth's opener), the scrimmages are making the best of a bad situation.

The split division won't happen. Nice idea, though.

You do have some points about the "season finale" rivalries. I think Penn-Cornell got matched up because for whatever reason, they chose to close with each other for Thanksgiving every year. They eventually dropped the Thanksgiving game, but kept the season finale with each other.

Its no secret that both Dartmouth and Princeton would rather close with either Harvard or Yale. But... H&Y want to close with each other. So Dartmouth and Princeton are each other's second choice. *grin*
