One or two key transfers could certainly tip the scales. I am surprised there aren't more transfers into the Ivy League, such as guys from a Stanford, Navy, or Northwestern who are really good players but may not be getting the playing time they had hoped to see. One really good defensive end or QB could make a big diffence. I think Yale and Penn have had some success with transfers.

Yale and Penn certainly have had success with transfers, but just about every school in the Ivy League has as well. Harvard benefitted from Dawson. There were transfers on the field for Columbia the last time they beat Princeton at Princeton.

Every team has benefited from transfers except holier than thou Princeton which disdains them unless they happen to be Sprncer Gloger.

I transferred to an Ivy from a junior college program my junior year and have no regrets. I chose the JUCO route for two reasons. First it saved my parents a ton of money and secondly I got to start my freshman and sophmore year and didn't miss a game. At the time most private four years schools cost about $30,000 per year and my junior college cost about $2,000. My junior college coaches were the ones who made contacts for me at several Ivy, Patriot League, and Atlantic 10 conference schools. The transfer process was easy and I think the JUCO game experience I had was far superior to playing on the taxi squad. Many of the freshman and sophmore players in the Ivy League don't even get to travel with the team. I graduated on time and no graduate school or employer has even asked me about if or why I transferred. I am surprised that more Ivy players don't go this route.

Interesting story on how you got to be an Ivy leaguer. One question, did Ivy schools heavily recruit you out of high school? It seems like it would be hard for most kids to turn down an offer from a school and go the route you did. I'm glad it worked out great for you and you're right, playing two years vs sitting or special teaming it probably was a good thing for you. Where (what state) did you play your juco ball?

I went to a two year school mainly because I didn't get my act together to apply to a four year school, which is a poor reason. I had feelers from a number of I-A and primarily I-AA schools out of high school, but nothing materialized. I was a good student in high school, but I definitely became more serious about school and athletics my first two years of college.
