I applaud this young man for being a student-athlete and participating in the summer internship at JP Morgan, despite pressure from his coaches to stay on campus to work-out. Indiana actually has one of the best undergraduate business programs in the country and this young man maintains a 3.79 average in finance. I am sure he would do just fine at Wharton or any of the Ivies.

I am hearing more and more Ivy League coaches requiring or encouraging their players to remain on campus during the summer to work out. I would like to see all NCAA schools have a moratorium on summer practices so these kids can get a summer job and prepare for life after college. There's no reason why college football players can't have a summer job and workout at their local high school during the evening. Especially in the Ivy League where the season doesn't even start this year until September 20th. It may be an internship on Wall Street, in a hospital, working on a farm, or even flipping burgers. The point is a summer job is very important for all college students, athletes included.

That is probably a very good idea, but no doubt very hard to enforce such a moratorium. It would provide a better transition into the real world.
