All UFL teams wore "BT" stickers on the backs of their helmets last weekend.

That's a pretty remarkable tribute. For whatever reason, there is very little cross cultural connection between the professional and college football infrastructures. With few exceptions, you're either a college guy or a pro guy. For a brand new professional league to honor a career college coach is special.

I'm all for a tribute to one of the Ivy League's greatest coaches, but what's the connection, here? Seems odd that the United Football League would recognize Buddy Teevens. Is the team owner a former Dartmouth player?

All UFL teams will wear them for the entire 2024 season.
Also, they've copped the idea I floated for the Ivy League, naming the Coach of the Year Award after him.

UFL CEO: "Buddy’s dedication to mentorship and guidance not only shaped the athletes that were fortunate enough to play for him but instilled in them invaluable qualities that extend far beyond the field. He was not just a coach; he was a true architect of character, molding individuals of integrity, resilience, and excellence."

EVP of Football Ops, Troy Vincent: "“Coach Teevens is on my personal Mt. Rushmore of all-time coaches. He was ahead of his time in reducing contact, developing skills, and still winning. He was a man of great character who put the wellness and safety of his players first. Coach Teevens embodied what every athlete – and every parent – could ask for in someone who truly cared about both player care and winning. It is fitting that his legacy would live on not only in those who were lucky enough to cross paths in his life but also through this Coach of the Year Award.”
