Well if college football goes in that direction, then Congress should take away their not-for-profit status, thus eliminating the tax deductibility for donors. Right now we have college coaches and administrators making more money than NFL coaches and management. NFL teams pay income taxes and so should this new super league if that becomes reality.

Don't believe that we can say "if college football [basketball] goes in the direction" of Super Leagues and professionalism, it has already happened with the NIL collectives and transfer portal consuming collegiate sports.

Danny Wolf is off to Michigan for NIL money and Nana and Mack will be doing likewise. The Final Four teams' starting lineups are largely comprised of transfer portal players. Astoundingly, NC State is popularly referred to as the "Cinderella", while their top 7 players are all transfer portal players. My nursery book version of Cinderella did not refer to highly-compensated carpetbaggers sweeping the floors in the castle!

The taxation issues are complex although a new look is justified. What really needs to happen, though, is that we, the sports-watching consumers, need to reject the marketing hype and collegiate rah-rah surrounding this entertainment product and call it out for what it is, the professional minor leagues.
