Thanks Inquisitive one, although only Oscar addressed the rule you were curious about.

Harvard's 45-13 blowout of Princeton mostly confirmed the Crimson's trends on offense.
- McLaughlin did not play (still injured)
- Harvard gained 492 yards
- backup RB's ran for 169 yards on 28 carries.
- DePrima ran for 56 yards on 4 carries on designed runs
- Jaden Craig completed 79% (26-33) for 345 yards (4 TD's, 1 INT). Craig now has thrown for 17 TD's and 2 INT's.

Clearly, Princeton is not up to it's usual stature.

However, I do observe that Harvard's offense has gained 492 net yards in each of its last two Ivy contests (Cornell and Princeton).

This coming weekend Harvard is at Dartmouth. Dartmouth's pass defense is average in league thus far (262 yds/game) although its run defense is the best in the league (97 yds/game). Dartmouth's run offense is it's strength (212 yds/game), but Harvard's run defense is second only to Dartmouth's at 114 yds/game.

Note on 6-0 Dartmouth. They have won their past 5 games by a total of 13 points. They did crush Fordham in their opener, but winless Fordham (0-8) was decimated by injuries at that time. Hoping this is the game where the Crimson finally overcome the debacle at Brown and gain a share of the Ivy League lead at 3-1 and tightening the race with Brown and Columbia currently 2-1. If Dartmouth prevails, it would be in great position at 4-0 and Harvard, Princeton, Yale and Penn all with 2 or 3 losses. Brown and Columbia finish their respective seasons against each other as well.

Harvard OC and team excellently exploited our zone defense. Pass after pass to open receivers on the sidelines. When we went to man we got burned at least once.
Fitzpatrick interviewed for 5 minutes on the sideline. Sounded like he played some advisory role in the new coach hire.He said nice things about Aurich. But when asked whether they had wanted a Princeton guy he emphatically said we had not, at the time. By appropriately not letting up at 31-13 (and H even scored another TD when they stopped passing and with a backup QB), Aurich certainly demonstrated no residual sentimentality for Old Nassau and decisively snapped H’s 6 game losing streak to P. Winning out, if he can do it which is no small task, might dissipate more of the animosity some H alums felt with his hire.

I had a feeling that, if given the chance, Aurich would keep his foot on the accelerator. And I don't blame him. He's got to win over a variety of constituencies. If he gets off to a slow start, there will be no sympathies for him coming from the alumni.

I think that the single worst name to have on your resume if you're a Harvard coach is Princeton.

I have no doubt that, when the final gun went off at Harvard Stadium, the happiest person in the joint after Aurich was Erin McDermott. Last winter, she climbed into the hot air balloon with him and said, "Okay, pal, if you go down, there's no parachute for me."

As is true everywhere, winning cures all things. I would predict a Harvard win this Saturday, but I know how carefully Dartmouth alumni scour the internet looking for perceived slights.

My forecast:

Dartmouth 100, Harvard 0.

For whatever crazy reason, Harvard almost always brings its A game for Dartmouth, and we don't always do likewise.

There were a few games when I was hoping that we would really trash the Crimson, only to win holding on by our fingernails. The Hail Mary game (and how about those Commanders?) was one of them.

That said, Saturday is not one of the game when I'm thinking that will win by double digits (although it would be great if we did). I think we are really going to have to play mistake-free football to beat Harvard. We can do it. But I would be fine using up the sixth of our nine lives on Saturday for another close victory.

That was a good Dartmouth team (finished 8-2, 6-1), but won a lot of games by low single digits.

We had an excellent kicker.

We won one game (Penn) by a miracle play (although it occurred in the first half) that made Sports Illustrated.

We felt enchanted.

And then Harvard came to Hanover on our homecoming and kicked our asses. It was Murphy's first title.

I'm just feeling 1997 vibes again this season...

John Harvard: Perhaps you can clarify the Crimson QB situation. My “State of The League” post mentioned that Craig and DePrima are perfect complements to each other. Craig is a thrower that can run and DePrima is a runner that can throw. Occasionally , lining up DePrima at WR is great addition to the play book, but why has his role in the offense diminished?
