If you may recall, Matt Sluka, the former Holy Cross QB and Patriot League Player of the Year, who then transferred to UNLV. Last fall, Sluka started his first three games when he led his UNLV team to a 3-0 record. Yet, Sluka generated much national debate when he elected to quit the UNLV team mid-season due to a NIL dispute. This spring, he signed with James Madison University. At JMU, Sluka reunited with JMU head coach Bob Chesney and offensive coordinator Dean Kennedy, who previously were the HC and OC when Sluka was a star player for Holy Cross.

Unfortunately, this final transfer move does not seem to have worked out for him. He was beaten out for the starting QB position in the preseason and he has only made one passing attempt in the last four games.

Wonder if his NIL dispute was worth it in the end.

Malachi Hosley is having a pretty decent year for Georgia Tech.

So sometimes transfers do work!

When Matt Sluka announced he'll be reuniting with Bob Chesney, I'd thought he would be a dark horse Hiesman candidate. Last month I watched a few JMU games and noticed he's being ultized as a glorified Wildcat QB. Is there any reports on Matt Sluka's NIL stipend? If he has a sizeable contract,I'd love to kmow how the sponsor(s) feel about this deal?

This senerio is exactly like Jaden Rashada. Two years ago he withdrew his comment with Miami for a more lucrative NIL with Georgia. That deal didn't pan out.Last year he sued Florida and their coach at the Time Billy Napler. I've haven't heard anything from that lawsuit. After being a backup at Arizona State and Georgia, Jaden Rashada in an attempt to get his college career (and possibly NIL) on track transfered to Sacramento St. Where he's a backup QB.

Both of this once highly sought quarterbacks are reminiscent of Mitch Mustain. Fortunately, for these players they're now allotted as many transfers as they desire. Something Mitch Mustain would have pined for

I find it very ironic that Matt Sluka was a much better fit for the UNLV team, despite UNLV being a much better team than his new James Madison team. UNLV finished with a 11-3 record in the Mountain West Conference. James Madison participates in the much weaker Sun Belt Conference.

UNLV's only losses in 2024 were to excellent Boise State (12-2) and Syracuse (11-3) teams. When UNLV played Boise State in the Mountain West Championship Game, Boise State was ranked #11 and UNLV was ranked #19.

Like Jaden Rashada and Mitch Mustain, Matt Sluka is infamous for the wrong reasons.

Yet he also played a full four years for Holy Cross, where he wasn't getting any significant NIL money. He reportedly turned down NIL deals from other schools to stay at HC, and he ultimately did graduate with an HC degree.

He is infamous for unsuccessfully trying to cash in at UNLV after graduation, but you can't fault his Holy Cross career.

I have to admit that I now better understand why Matt Sluka selected James Madison University (JMU) as his final transfer school. I just watched the JMU Head Football Coach, Bob Chesney, provide a very compelling interview on Barstool Sports. I can see why football players love to play for this remarkable coach. He is so inspirational, bright and fun to be around.

An example of his sense of humor, he has allowed his team to declare their Nov 22nd game against Washington State as Marvel Super Hero Day. His players get to have the JMU logo on one side of their helmet and can choose one of the five Marvel characters on the other side of their helmet. He gave great explanations of how he successfully recruited and motivated diamonds in the rough athletes at D3 Johns Hopkins, FCS Holy Cross and now FBS JMU. No wonder, he finished first in the Patriot League 5 times in a row. He is a proven winner at every school he has coached.

Bob Chesney is such a hot commodity that his name is being mentioned for numerous Power 4 conference football coaching job searches. If he stays at JMU, I can see several Ivy graduate transfers electing to play for this coach.

"UNLV being a much better team than his new James Madison team"

Let's see. Sagarin has JMU at 38 in the country and UNLV at 88. JMU is 27th in AP voting and UNLV does not appear. The Athletic has JMU at 42 in the country and UNLV at 58. Massey has JMU at 48 and UNLV at 68.

JMU is now ranked in both polls.
