Subject: Brown-URI in Pawtucket

When it was announced that Brown would play its annual Governor’s Cup game against URI at the beautiful brand new stadium in Pawtucket, I thought it was a great idea. Why not try to generate some excitement about a game that’s become stale, and get the locals talking about it? Shuttle a bunch of students in and do a big tailgate, treat it like it’s a big event.

But two months later, there’s been almost no promotion locally, and it looks like only a few hundred tickets have sold beyond the season ticket holders who have it included in their package. They haven’t even opened about half the stadium (which only seats 10,000). Starting to think this will be an embarrassment for both teams.

speaking of marketing -- I was on the Jersey shore last weekend - and two aircraft towing signs came by - advertising Rutgers football urging people to buy tickets - saying there was a blackout - I thought this was pretty amusing somehow.

reminds me of the time some columbia backer did the same thing during a game with a sentiment about firing the coach!

According to the Brown football website, the game is "sold out" and that SeatGeek link is an aftermarket site.
There _are_ a lot of tickets available on that site, though. I guess a lot of season ticket holders are looking to sell.

As an aside, URI will be playing all of their 2026 home games in that stadium while their home field undergoes renovations.

I don’t buy it. SeatGeek is the primary ticketing service for events at the stadium, and when they initially went on sale for this game, the same sections that are for sale now all appeared as fully available. And entire end zone of seats can’t possibly be resale only!

You may well be correct, Moonbear. If so, then the Brown Sports Information Dept has opted to employ a unique method of telling the truth, as they claim here that it's "sold out" -

I guess that means "you can't buy tickets here, so go to SeatGeek instead. I suppose in some universe, that could be considered "sold out" -- if you squint.
