In reply to: Bengal 's message, "Re: Two new Columbia commits" on 11:07:36 08/20/25 Wed

"Wisconsin: A two-year revenue-sharing agreement exists, utilizing a Big Ten-issued template form, though a specific player, Xavier Lucas, has opted to leave without entering the transfer portal despite being bound by this agreement.

Duke: Duke quarterback Darien Mensah has a two-year deal valued at $4 million per year.

BYU: Basketball star AJ Dybantsa had an approximate asking price of $5 million before signing with BYU, though the duration of that specific agreement is not explicitly stated in the provided text.

Texas Tech: Five-star offensive line prospect Felix Ojo has a three-year deal averaging $775,000 annually with a verbal understanding that Texas Tech will renegotiate up to $5 million.

USC: JuJu Watkins, a women's basketball star, has agreed to a multiyear contract extension with Nike, which is described as one of the richest shoe endorsement deals in women's basketball.

North Carolina: Freshman Caleb Wilson has reportedly signed a multi-year and multimillion-dollar shoe deal with New Balance."

As with other pro teams (no pun here), there are risks to both parties in signing such agreements (player: injury risk; team: performance risk). Who knows what will develop, and we can certainly look forward to more litigation, but my bet would be a path that mirrors traditional pro sports franchises.

I am already behind the times! Thanks. This may spread more quickly than I apparently erroneously thought. I wonder how widespread it is now.

No shame in being behind the times, Bengal.

"The times" are changing as fast as human imagination and the profit motive can merge. The rules, in part because there are almost none in college sports, are evolving faster than we fans can follow.

Very cogent points. The times they are a changing. And changing faster that Livvy can change into an orange dress.
