J. Ramirez:

About 20 years ago I took your advice and increased my deductions. Next year I tried an experiment. I calculated my tax and mailed it to them with a cover letter but without submitting the forms. It took 2 years for the IRS to catch up with me. They picked up my paycheck. I filed against them in IRS small claims court.

First time after years of sending letters that I got to talk to a live IRS lawyer. He said, "OK, fill out the damn paperwork." I did. Result was that I got fined a couple of hunderd bucks for the w-4 form!

I was NOT audited and have never been audited.
