Unfortunately, JohnE doesn't know what he's talking about regarding religion, or at least Leviticus. In the same book, for instance, women are instructed not to appear in public if they are menustrating. Gosh. What IF we applied the standards and instructions of Leviticus to modern society? That is, afterall, what John is suggesting when he quotes a passage from Leviticus to apply to gays today.
But your point is interesting. Can Liberty be applied to gays as well as to others? Hmmmm. I would hope so. Indeed, I would hope, but the problem is that we're already living in a Police State.
