I do agree with all you have said. I have never viewed President Lincoln as a facist. I have only wondered all my adult life why, with his common-sense grasp of most of the contradictions of the human condition and the crisis he found himself governing, he didn't simply, in those first faltering months of the dispute, use that common-sense approach to reach out to the South and demand a compromise.
I think, even today, we see in most Americans the will that no foreign army, by force, will take a drink in our rivers. I can only hope our current leaders will stop the war-mongering and see it too.
Most of us know when a real threat is present and know how to deal with it. We don't need contrived threats. Most of all, we are tired of lies from both major parties. More than that, we will no longer give our blood for them.
