Hi:
I wanted to inform you about a new documentary on libertarians and other third parties that in release now. Please help spread the work. See the attached press release.
---------------------
Official Press Release, October 14, 2004, announcing release of political documentary “Running Against Dick”

For immediate release

NEW DOCUMENTARY GIVES INSIGHT INTO THIRD PARTIES STRUGGLE AGAINST INCUMBENTS

“Running Against Dick” film gives voice to frequently relegated third party candidates efforts to get independent voices out.

October 14, 2004, St. Louis, MO - As the presidential candidates scramble to get their messages heard, and pollsters and pundits argue about swing states and attack ads, filmmaker Srikant Chellappa gives us a hilarious and often sobering look at what it takes for the average guy to run for office.

Following the heels of political documentaries like Fahrenheit 9/11 and Outfoxed, comes a new documentary that, for once, is not a political ad in any way, shape or form. The movie, Running Against Dick is an irreverent look at third party candidates running against an entrenched incumbent candidate.

The focus of the film is the campaign by Dan Byington (Libertarian) against incumbent Rep Richard Gephardt for the US Congress in 2002. The film also provides insight into campaigns by Green Party, and un-funded Republican and Democratic candidates in the primaries.

Running Against Dick premiered at the Annual Flint Film Festival where it showed to a standing room only crowd and won the Audience Choice Award for documentaries.
The film travels to St. Louis on October 26th showing at the Webster Film Series, which will be the movie’s first showing in the city where it was filmed.

“My hope is that, this film provides a perspective of the other candidates in a bitterly divided country, in not so much to encourage the voters to vote for third parties but at least acknowledge their love for change and the sincerity of their beliefs” says Srikant Chellappa, the filmmaker.

“Unless you have a lot of money, you are not even a contender” - Quote from the film by Jeff Smith, Democratic Strategist.

Although his name is in the title, Rep. Richard Gephardt and his 26-year tenure in the House serve only as the backdrop for the races run by alternative candidates in what turns out to be Mr. Gephardt’s last run for office.

While the film focuses on a used car salesman, a chef, and a freight salesman as they struggle to get their name out to the voting public, it’s the man-on-the-street interviews that steal the show. Over the course of five months of the campaign, hundreds of people were interviewed, some of which illustrated the extent to which the voters vote along party lines without considering the issues.

“I don’t care, it doesn’t matter. I will still vote republican” – Quote from the film by Joe Church, Republican voter when asked, if republicans have done what they promised him when they got into office.

“I really don’t know.. The way I was brought up..to vote democratic” – Quote from the film by a Democratic voter on the street when asked, why he considers Democrats liberal and what they had done for him.

The DVD features exclusive interviews with Michael Badnarik (Libertrian Candidate for President 2004), Tamara Millay (Libertarian Candidate for US Senate 2002), Daniel "Digger" Romano (Green Part Candidate for US Senate 2002) and host of other unfunded candidates.

The film will be distributed on DVD by Chicago based SonicWave Intl. domestically and will hit the shelves of online retailers in the first week of November, 2004.
