there can be boats docked along both sides, ferry boats coming in and out depending on the time, etc. I think it's wide enough and if you had the timing right, you could tack through it but it would be tight.

I agree with what you were saying regarding working smarter. It seems the instinct to force a solution is usually the result of panic and not clear thinking. It often results in making things worse. Like Carson was saying, about plotting backup anchorages, forethought, and preparation are really key. I remember reading somewhere that a good sailor is constantly pondering "what if" and thinking about worse case scenarios and deciding what to do in that situation. If you're thinking that far ahead, the little inevitable hickups are easier to deal with.

I have a genoa but all my sails are pretty tired. I'm hoping to sew some over the winter. I'd defanitely like to have a big, light, light air sail.
