Subject: Teenage Dutch Girl Solo Around The World

Whats the problem with a 13 year old wanting to go solo? We have just got the "Ice Maiden" back in the water after the winter refit and have started to do sea trials. Our 3 year old daughter was at the helm as we headed out. The marina has a nasty current at the entrance except on slack water and she managed to take it out of there on a falling tide. I just stood beside her just in case and to guide her as she can't see forward yet. The policy we have on board is if the children can walk they can learn to handle their home. If the children want to kick their parents off for a few months and take it out on their own when they are a bit older then all well and good! So our opinion is let her go and see the world. Remember she as born at sea.
