I think that ultimately, I will wait and see.
Bearing in mind I do not yet know how to sail, and am starting from scratch.
Too many unknowns right now, and I badly need water time.
I will get someone competent to take me out (without using the engine, even if it can be run) and then I can decide during my first summer season. Getting the engine running will not be a big priority unless I decide it has to be.
I prefer not to burn my bridges. I might not have the endurance to make rowing a sole alternative to sails.
At the same time, a good set of long oars might well be a prudent purchase/hobby-job, and be of high priority.
