OK, I thought it worth restating again here...
During a moment's idle reflection, I came up with an idea (which is original to me but probably exists somewhere in cyberspace already) for a new treasure hunt(ish) pursuit!

Method:
Everybody's done it at some time or another,
...tying a little card with your name and address on it, to a balloon filled with helium and releasing it, hoping that the finder replies by mail giving you some indication of how far the balloon has travelled!

OK, So far, so boring, however...

I was trying to work out the logistics of setting up a website or forum which could, somehow, keep track of these balloons, linking the sender and finder via email or forum and log the distances.
The idea is, obviously, still in it's infancy and of course carries no treasure as such, but as "treasure" might be regarded as "a reward" then perhaps it might loosely come under that banner.

Obvious problems include:
What wording should be used on the tag? (a template would have to be decided upon)
Should ID numbers be registered on the site by the sender or supplied by the site before release? (this would require membership of some kind I would suspect)
What measures would have to be taken to ensure authenticity when accepting reported release/finds? (who knows what records might be broken or scientific data might be obtained?)

So, What do you think?
Viable idea or load of old crap?
