Nikita sat in front of the computer as she sent images off to where they needed to do and waited for the DVD to burn for the family who wanted every image that she took burned and given to them. It had been a long week since Nikita had that phone call that told her that Adam had been beaten up.
It was Monday afternoon that Michael came to talk to her about being there with him when Adam and Robbie met at school. She was shocked that Adam had even agreed to it, but then she also knew that Adam wanted to go back to school and the school would not allow it until the meeting was held.
This was after Adam steadfastly refused to see the rationale behind the Police charging Robbie with assault.
Michael had told Nikita that he needed her to be there so that he would be able to contain his anger he felt for this boy. Nikita sat there and held both Michael’s hand and Adam’s hand in the conference room as Robbie was brought in by his father.
Nikita ended in tears at the end. Robbie hadn’t told most people, but his mother, who was divorced from his father for many years, had passed away during the summer. It didn’t excuse his behavior but it did explain some of what was going on. Especially when they heard that his mother worked as a linguistic specialist. It had been Adam’s suggestion on Robbie volunteering at the elementary school for the rest of the year that got them both admitted back to school.
Adam hadn’t been medically cleared to go back till Thursday.
With a roll of her shoulders, Nikita didn’t want to admit how tired that she was and that this work was doing nothing to stop her mind from what she wanted to do. But she didn’t dare be the Angel right now. All of the things that she would have done would have led to a high profile discovery and she didn’t want the Devil to strike. Instead, she passed the information off to Nat. If anything, she had kept Nat very busy, although everything had been outside of this city and he only had to pass the information along.
Now Nikita just wanted to focus on work. She needed to focus on work.
Until the door opened.
Nikita was about to groan with frustration but then she turned her head and saw Michael with daisies in his hand. “Michael…”
“I thought that you might need something to make you smile today,” Michael spoke as he pulled a rolling chair over to be right beside Nikita. He kissed her lips tenderly as he put the daisies into the empty vase that was on the desk. “It’s been a long week and you’ve been a trooper.”
Nikita blushed and shook her head. “I did what I had to do, Michael.”
Michael nodded his head as he moved in closer to Nikita. “I think… Walter can watch the house tomorrow for the afternoon… we need to get a break.”
“A break?” Nikita questioned with a husky voice as she felt Michael’s hand on her arm, indicating exactly what she thought that Michael was indicating. “Would this break… include a hotel room somewhere?”
“Yeah,” Michael rasped as he nodded his head up and down before capturing Nikita’s lips. Nikita pressed into that kiss, hungrily taking everything that Michael was giving to her. Nikita leaned into Michael’s body, feeling the heat building. She pulled away breathlessly. “Did you lock the door?”
“Here?” Michael quipped as he nodded his head up and down. Nikita stood and was about to turn off the lights when her eyes saw the television and the breaking new story.
Angel Stops Mid-Day Robbery
“Michael…” Nikita numbly spoke as she moved towards the television to turn on the volume. Michael hadn’t seen it yet and his hands wrapped around her waist. “Kita… that can stay on…”
Nikita pushed at Michael’s arms to get out of his touch, suddenly forgetting what they were about to do just seconds ago. She turned on the volume and started to shake her head. “This isn’t the Angel… right?”
Michael shook his head as he heard the announcer say the word Angel. He found his attention right on the screen and he felt his head shaking from side to side. “That’s too far away for any of us…”
“And in the middle of the day,” Nikita pointed out with a loud voice. She swallowed hard. “Michael… we know that the person… the Devil… that thing… he doesn’t know who the Angel is… he only takes what the press feeds… and they are wrong this time.”
Michael nodded his head slightly as he pulled out his phone while both his phone and Nikita’s started to ring.
Something told him that they wouldn’t be finding a hotel room tomorrow.
