Nikita was alert while Michael drove them. She had remained quiet until Michael chuckled. “You hadn’t found this, did you?”

“What?” Nikita pulled her eyes off of the leaves that were still clinging to the trees as the weather had stayed mild for much longer this fall.

“You didn’t know that I had something in this area,” Michael gloated slightly as he turned the corner in the forest and stopped as the house came into view. “I’m glad that you didn’t find out about it.”

“It’s beautiful,” Nikita spoke and Michael laughed. “And you are hoping that it isn’t too rustic.”

Nikita blushed and nodded her head. “Yeah… because we are really isolated.”

“Modern facilities,” Michael winked as he got out of the SUV and walked around to Nikita’s door. He helped her out and waited for her to take a deep breath. She looked around and then back at Michael. “It reminds me… of the place… the farm house in ways… but with more trees.”

“And no trigger to hide,” Michael winked and Nikita smiled as she placed her arms around Michael’s waist. “Is this why Walter was carrying a bag?”

“He is staying overnight… again,” Michael nodded his head as he admitted that he had to give the grandfather another try at being good at the job. He didn’t have a tough as job since Reagan would be there and Adam wasn’t hanging out with Lisa any more, although he might have to kick Gretchen out of the house.

Michael walked Nikita into the house and she sighed as she looked at the security system and then the décor. It was warm and they would not be lacking anything.

“I came up yesterday to stock up the food…” Michael explained as he placed his hand low on Nikita’s back. She looked up at Michael and licked her lips. “Ok…”

“I basically built this place up from the broken down house that it was… and it was hard to get thru that unpaved road,” Michael explained and Nikita pulled away to look at him. “Why now?”

“What?” Michael asked and Nikita swallowed. “Was this to be a surprise?”

“I’ve had the property for a long time… It was built with the electricity and the security… in case I had to get away with Adam quickly but couldn’t go far for some reason,” Michael explained as he looked around and then grabbed Nikita around the waist. “I started to make it feel more like a home last spring… when I knew that we would need a retreat for when we found our daughter…”

Nikita was in an inquisitive mood. “So this was going to be a gift. You weren’t going to bring me here right now.”

“This is exactly what it was meant for… for when we needed to get away,” Michael pressed a kiss on Nikita’s forehead. Nikita arched an eyebrow. “Was this going to be my wedding gift?”

“No,” Michael firmly declared.

“Christmas gift?”

“You saw the road that we drove in on… we couldn’t make it here if there was a lot of snow, Kita,” Michael chided Nikita’s question but Nikita sighed. “So we can’t come here when it snows?”

“I didn’t say that either,” Michael slipped away but he held onto Nikita’s hand. “Come look at this room.”

Nikita followed Michael as he walked her into the kitchen. She nodded her head and then continued to walk as Michael pushed into the main bedroom. She loved the colors and Michael continued to move. “The bathroom is really big…”

“How do you get here if there is snow? Because if this is for us… we may have to come here… around Valentine’s Day…” Nikita spoke as she continued to try to gather information. Michael stopped short of opening the next room and faced Nikita. “I worked a deal out with that small Bed and Breakfast that we passed about twenty minutes ago…. They are the closest to this place… they have some gassed up snowmobiles there that are mine.”

“Some?”

“In case there are problems with one… there are three… in different locations,” Michael answered as he tilted his head to the side. “I would never come here if I really thought that someone was after me or my family… so it’s for fun… and it’s a safe ride on the road on the snowmobile…”

Nikita nodded her head as she looked at Michael. “This was my Christmas gift.”

Michael swallowed and nodded his head and then shrugged his shoulders. “It could have been.”

“Could have been?”

“I have lots of surprises that I’m always working on for you… you do the same for me,” Michael explained as he moved to touch Nikita’s face gently. She eased her face into Michael’s palm. She closed her eyes at the touch and stood like that as Michael moved his thumb slightly across her cheek. Then a smile started to crack across her lips. “Has Adam found this place yet?”

Michael couldn’t help it, he chuckled. “I have been throwing him off track for a while.”

“You think,” Nikita arched an eyebrow and Michael pulled his hand away. He shook his head and sighed. “I’m not going to think about Adam… or Sabina…”

“Or Walter?” Nikita quipped and Michael rolled his eyes. “I regret to inform you that the cell reception is perfect here… maybe I shouldn’t have fixed that… but I do want to forget about all of our family for a while, because we need our time.”

Nikita rolled her shoulders back as she thought about that phrase. It had been a while since it was just them. “I like that… it might be hard.”

“And that is why…” Michael led Nikita towards the next door. He opened it and walked in with Nikita’s hand in his. “I created this room… “

Nikita looked at the chocolate walls and the bright amber lamps. In the middle was a padded massage table. Michael turned and looked at Nikita. “This should help me relax you.”

“I remember when relax was a code word for something very different,” Nikita’s voice smoldered as her eyes twinkled. Michael swallowed back that instantaneous desire to devour her right now. That would be later. “We’ll get to that, Kita.”

“That better be a promise.”

“Oh, it is,” Michael rasped as he turned and pushed the door closed. He lit some candles and turned to look at Nikita. “What are you waiting for?”

“ You are giving me a massage now?” Nikita inquired and Michael nodded his head. “I like it when you aren’t so tense… and although you have been letting go of some of that tension as we drove here… you still have it… I can see it.”

Nikita rolled her shoulders back and was about to protest, but she didn’t. She ran her hands along the table and hitched a hip onto it. “Now?”

“Strip, Kita,” Michael ordered and Nikita arched an eyebrow. “Are you sure that we aren’t talking about relaxing?”

“Strip,” Michael rasped as he touched the sheet that was on the top of the massage table. “And get underneath the sheet… face down…”

“Still could be that other type of relaxing, Michael,” Nikita quipped. Michael moved up against her and pressed against her. “Kita, please… let me do this for you.”

Nikita pushed her shoulders forward as she stood up. She stared at Michael as her hands deftly unbuttoned her relaxed fit jeans and allowed them to drop to the floor. She held her blue eyes on Michael as she lifted her shirt up and over her head.

Naked.

Michael fought against the desire to swallow hard. He didn’t expect to find that Nikita had worn nothing underneath her clothes. It was good that he didn’t know that on the way up, they wouldn’t have made it into the front door if he had known this.

“Let me get the oil warming,” Michael turned away as he walked to the counter and took a deep breath to calm his desire to give Nikita what she was indicated that she needed right now.

Because that would definitely be coming next.
