Michael glanced at Nikita as she sat in the unmoving car. It wasn’t moving because she had asked him to pull over because she felt sick. Michael didn’t feel much better, but he looked at Nikita with more worry. She didn’t need this right now. For all the things that they had planned on handling coming here to San Francisco, this was not one of them.

“Michael…” Davenport spoke and Michael looked at Nikita. They weren’t far from the private airport where they were going to take an airplane back home. The adult Tom had arranged for that. But everything else was up in the air.

“Kita… we should get to the airport,” Michael spoke and Nikita lifted her head. “You know… what that doctor was going to do for her, right?”

“It’s probably better than a bullet… or dying from the cancer,” Michael replied as he knew that it did Nikita no good to hear that. She winced and she looked out the window. “Everything… I wanted for them…”

“Their child lives, Kita,” Michael rasped and Nikita shook her head. “They didn’t get enough time together… not enough…”

“I think they both feel that they had enough time together… because they were together in a way that they couldn’t have been inside of Section,” Michael spoke. Nikita pressed her hand against the window. “But wouldn’t… she be able to live… cancer would have been caught… she was good… it would have been treated…”

“You can’t play the what if game,” Michael whispered as he rubbed Nikita’s shoulder. He glanced back to the sleeping baby who was so small and it was clear that he was lucky to be alive. “And we have to focus on the present… and what to do with Tom.”

Nikita whirled her head around to look at the boy, her eyes filling with tears. “I think… I see some of Logan in him…”

“We can think about those things later… after we know what we are doing with him,” Michael continued to rub Nikita’s shoulder as he had tried earlier to ask Nikita these questions, but she wasn’t even talking then.

“We… we aren’t keeping him.”

“It could be the answer,” Michael proposed. Nikita wrenched her shoulder away from Michael’s touch as her head shook from side to side, but she didn’t speak. Michael leaned his head back and looked straight ahead. “I know that you… you would want to have a child… but I don’t think you think you can… that the Post Traumatic…”

“And having the son of Logan and Erica wouldn’t add to that?” Nikita hissed as she turned to glare at Michael. “I know that you want a baby… I know that Sabina wants a baby… Hell, I think Adam wants a baby too… everyone wants me to have a baby… but this baby… Little Tom… he isn’t that baby!”

Tom started to cry and Michael reached over the seat and soothed the baby who quickly went back to sleep. Nikita pressed her face against the window. “If I am… ever going to love… a child… as ours… it has to be ours… and I’m working towards that Michael… but pushing me… isn’t going to make it easier.”

Michael waited and touched Nikita’s shoulder and didn’t move it. “I’m sorry, Kita…”

Nikita nodded her head and looked at him. She paused and blinked her eyes. “But you are happy with this too.”

“I want you to have the joy of being pregnant with our child… so you can truly feel the wonder and life… I know that it would bring us closer together to experience that… together,” Michael admitted as he wiped at Nikita’s tears. He pulled his hand away and gazed back to Tom. “What do we do with him?”

“I better call Rhoda… because I don’t think they thought they were going to get an infant…” Nikita rasped as she stopped and cleared her throat. “And I hope… this is the only time…. This happens… because Rhoda can’t take them all in.”

“But you wouldn’t turn any away,” Michael spoke as he knew Nikita. This would continue to be the penance that she thought she owed the world – and he wasn’t going to talk her out of it.
