Ellie stomped her feet on the porch as the door opened up before she could ring the doorbell. Michael gathered a heavy robe around his body and stepped back. “Adam is making some hot chocolate for you…”

“Why is he up?” Ellie inquired and Michael shut the door after Ellie entered. He didn’t answer and Ellie hesitated pulling the coat off and Michael sighed. “Do you think that Adam wouldn’t hear Nikita shouting for me?”

Ellie whispered ‘oh’ as she started to take her coat off and she reached for the bag that she had bought over. “Whatever is going around has been a pretty wicked stomach virus…” Ellie spoke and Michael looked outside. “That’s about ten inches of snow, right?”

“Yeah,” Ellie nodded her head up and down.

“If it was less than eight, Kita was going to make me take Sabina to the hospital… She woke up very quickly…” Michael explained and Ellie nodded her head. “I have to see her… but I think it was scary to see what happened… and that it is being compounded by everything that has been going on between Nikita and Sabina.”

Adam walked out with the mug as he was walking around in heavy pajamas. “Here you go. Thank you for coming over. Nikita is freaked.”

“I think she has the right to be worried, Adam. She doesn’t know what is going on with her daughter. She did the same with you when you had the flu,” Ellie pointed out as she took the hot chocolate and looked at Michael. “Anything else that I need to know?”

“I got Sabina to drink some Gatorade we had stashed in the one cupboard… I know that it was important to replenish the fluids,” Michael spoke and Ellie nodded her head as she handed the mug to Michael after only one sip. “I should get to her now… Nikita…”

Michael knew what Ellie was asking. “Protective lioness,” Michael spoke and Ellie tilted her head as that was the information she needed to know. “I haven’t seen any signs of a flash, Ellie.”

“Come on,” Ellie started up the stairs and Michael touched her arm to stop her. “Neither I or Nikita are good patients, Ellie… and Sabina has so much of both of us…”

“But both of you have other reasons why you weren’t good patients. Sabina doesn’t have the Section history,” Ellie pointed out as she wasn’t going to buy into Sabina being a bad patient, but she was ready to face that if it was going to happen. But Ellie was more afraid of how Michael and Nikita were taking this. Michael was fine right now. Nikita scared her.

And then the fact that Ellie knew that both Mick and Reagan were sick, she feared that soon everyone in this house could be sick.

“I feel… better, Mommy,” Sabina complained as she sat up in her bed, pushing the cloth off of her head. “I’m fine…”

“That does nothing to make me change my mind, Sabina. You are sick… and fine is a lie,” Nikita declared back as she picked up the cloth again and was about to put it back on her daughter’s head when Ellie cleared her throat. “Hello everyone… what’s going on?”

“I feel much better…” Sabina sighed as she looked at Ellie. “Mommy said that throwing up would help… and it did.”

“She passed out,” Nikita interrupted and Ellie touched Nikita’s shoulder as she approached the bed. “Let me take a look…”

Nikita didn’t like to move away, but Michael was right there and Nikita immediately went to his arms.

Ellie got the temperature first and noted that it was still elevated. This could just be a lull and Ellie didn’t want anyone to think the worse was over yet. A virus could play like it was getting better to only continue. Or once the medicine that Nikita and Michael had obviously given Sabina for her fever wore off the fever would continue. “How long have you felt sick?”

“She called out for me during the night… a couple hours ago…” Nikita answered and Ellie didn’t look away from Sabina. Sabina licked her parched lips and sighed. “At school… I didn’t feel that well… but Reagan didn’t notice…”

“Because she wasn’t feeling well either.”

“She was missing Mick,” Sabina rasped out as she shook her head from side to side. Ellie took Sabina’s hands and checked her fingers to any sign of any other distress, but the color came back quickly to Sabina’s fingertips. Ellie pulled out her stethoscope. “So… when you threw up… did you fall or anything when the world went dark?”

“No,” Nikita answered from behind. “She was on the bed.”

Ellie turned to look at the nervous mother. “I just wanted to be sure… when I hear pass out sometimes the more important things that happen are when the body falls… it’s good that she was in the bed… and not in the bathroom.”

“I’m just… yucky… but not as yucky…” Sabina tried to explain as she frowned. She needed fluids and rest. Ellie nodded her head up and down. “Well, I’m not going to worry about how you passed out…”

“What?” Nikita exclaimed as Michael had to clamp his arms around her to stop her from pulling at Ellie to face her.

Ellie continued to focus on Sabina. “See… it’s very common for people to get dizzy… and pass out when they throw up… the blood pressure can dramatically drop… especially if they were trying really hard not to throw up…”

“I didn’t want too,” Sabina whispered and Ellie nodded her head up and down. “And now you want to sleep, right?”

“Yes,” Sabina blinked her eyes.

“I’m going to get you some more fluid to drink… that is what I’m worried about… because if you get dehydrated, I’ll have to take you to the hospital then… and I don’t think any of us want that.”

“I have a test tomorrow at school,” Sabina shook her head. “I have to go to school.”

“Schools are closed,” Michael spoke as Nikita continued to wiggle in his arms. “There is a lot of snow, Sabina.”

Sabina seemed to relax more and Nikita groaned. Clearly she had been telling Sabina the same thing that Michael had said.

“Come on, Nikita… let’s go find something for Sabina to drink… any chance you have more Gatorade hiding around?” Ellie questioned Nikita as she stood up from the bed. Nikita looked at Michael and shook her head. “No… my daughter passed out… she threw up… and has a fever… more has to be done.”

Ellie reached out for Nikita but Nikita wrenched her body away. “No… you barely looked at her.”

“She has a virus… and I’ll tell you more in the kitchen… there is no reason for Sabina to hear all of this,” Ellie tried to get Nikita to come with her. Right now, this mother needed a moment away from her daughter, to breathe and to listen to Ellie. It wasn’t going to happen in this room.

“I’ll stay here, Kita,” Michael tried to offer as a way to get Nikita to leave.

“But she called for me earlier,” Nikita protested as she shook her head. Ellie glanced to Michael and stood there for a moment. But Nikita wasn’t going to look back at her.

And now Ellie had to think about Sabina first.

“I’m going to go look for the Gatorade… because that is a priority… and if not that… I’ll start some very very water-downed tea…” Ellie declared as she left the room, making Sabina the first thing that mattered right now.

And to call for some reinforcements because this wasn’t going to be easy.

“Ellie,” Michael stepped out into the hallway and the doctor stopped, hoping that Nikita was going to be coming out after her. But the woman didn’t appear. Michael rubbed his neck. “Sabina may have gotten this from Reagan… and I know that Reagan keeps Gatorade for after runs… maybe you should check with her…”

Ellie sadly nodded her head. She had planned on checking in on Reagan once she had things settled with Sabina but if that was where she had to look for what would be the best thing to give Sabina right now, then Ellie would have to do that first. “There is a convenience store not far from here… if we can’t get anything right now… I’ll have Davenport go over when it opens.”

“If it opens,” Michael pointed out as he glanced back into the room and then back to Ellie. “I’m sorry.”

The whisper was sadly and Ellie shook her head. “We all deal with things differently Michael… and she is being a protective mother… I’ve learned to never to take that too personally.”
