Subject: Funding for our annual winter semi-formal

Here at UCI we started an annual winter semi-formal three years ago. As a co-founder we had a struggle starting it because we only got $400 of funding from our Student Government that year. It was enough to start it. Last year, we got $1000! Woo hoo! And, this year, we got $0, nothing, zero, nada from our student government.

We were all extremely dissappointed. The only type of dance with any type of acceptance of the lgbt community was given nothing. Yeah, there are plenty of dances on campus, but anyone who is lgbt takes their date to a dance/winter formal. maybe, but we are too afraid to hold hands or dance together because we are afraid of getting a negative remark or be the center of attention (like at a museum).

Eventually, we got $800 funding from Lisa Cornish, the undergraduate housing director of UCI! She's our angel here with the lgbt student community. And so now we are having our cool 3rd Annual Winter Semi-Formal with the theme of "Time after Time...the 80's.

You are all invited, it will take place on February 26, 2003 from 8pm - 12pm here at uci. and if u want more info, email me at irvineq@uci.edu.

I am posting this to show struggles that we go through here at UCI, but most of the time by working extremely hard we get someone who decides to help us. I wish we didn't have to work so hard as us students get burned out. But, I guess we learn to fight, we learn to be strong leaders, and we are kicking ass.
