His breath starts coming in short rapid gasps again as he opens his eyes and tries to stand. He can't even get a leg out in front of him to push over on his belly. He falls back to the ground with an involuntary grunt. Then he sees his fur. His beautiful white fur, which he would spend hours grooming, is black. Not just any faded black, the color of black that is in the pupils of any wolf's eye. He lays back down and takes comfort in being able to think, for the time being.*
