Subject: I was set up once

A well-intentioned, married couple, good friends of mine, had the brilliant idea of setting me up with someone they thought would be a great match for me. They'd only known the man for a few weeks, but he seemed really nice.

They arranged for us to mail each other first. Well, that didn't go too well. The guy decided it would be a really funny ice-breaker to send me a HUGE card. It was so huge, I had to take time off work, borrow a car and drive to the nearest postal outlet to my home, which at the time was 15 minutes away from where I lived. When I opened the card, it read "Happy Valentine's Day -- To the Horniest Person I Know!!" with a huge cupid blowing a trumpet. He thought that was funny. I should've known then there was something a bit off. We corresponded a bit, and then I was moving to his city anyway, so we agreed to meet up. There was a huge thud in my head when we met up. Uh-uh. No way. Not gonna happen. SO not my type. My friends later admitted they were mistaken, and didn't know what a geek he was.

My story isn't typical, and I'm sure there are lots of success stories, but I have to say, anytime anyone has ever tried to set me up, I've politely said no. And I sure wouldn't appreciate someone planning on setting me up without telling me ahead of time!
