My great-grandfather, Charles W. Smith, has a patent for "Improvement in Cooking-Stoves," dated July 21, 1868. It says he is "of Hornellsville," although he lived in Evans, NY. Would anyone know why he would live in one town and use an address of another? Why would he work in Hornellsville instead of at home? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Beverly Vorpahl
