Between Life And Death

I had just arrived in time to see
The shock of her vast infirmity.
And, there on her sides each lover laid,
Like soft silhouettes no sounds were made.

Life..on her left was glowing and fresh,
While Death..on her right clung to her flesh.
Helplessly, I watched her slowly wane,
As she writhed beneath the sheet of pain.

Life gently began to pull away.
From ashen lips I heard her say,
"It is time for me to leave this place,"
Then Death gave her..one final embrace.
