Subject: Treasures.

This was recited over ABC Regional Radio this morning.

Treasures.

This velvet night that covers me in diamond studded stars
Flings a path of amethysts - the lights of moving cars.
The iridescence of the towns scattered on my way
Like groups of pearls shine for me brighter than the day.

Darkly gloom the mountains, shadowing my track,
The crescent moon behind me, lying on its back
Throws its wan light earthward, silvering the sea,
The engines drone, I fly alone - just my Gods and me.

Up here, midst all these treasures strewn for me to see,
I marvel at the chances of how it came to be,
The beauty of this planet, the air so smooth and soft,
I thank my Gods for being here, alone and up aloft.

The wireless breaks my reverie, my clearance heading home,
I see the ruby beacon flashing on my aerodrome.

David Henry. 19/9/99.
