I spent 15 years as a Navy journalist and public affairs officer. When we had a mishap or accident, all reporters wanted to know, at first, was how many injured and killed. Later they came back for the details. And all the politicians and Navy brass postured and held memorial services that were just thrown together. Then to the business of blame. Main stories in the news are always about death and destruction. It sickened me so much, I quit reading the news for 10 years. I got along fine. Now, I read the news, but have an internal filter for the death and destruction, or I just skip the story. Your fine poem says much to me and I understand it fully. Great writing!
