The Neddies.

The neddies come clattering down the broad street,
White blazes all nodding and feathered white feet
Fly to the jingle of harness and gear
Breathing great clouds in the cold morning air.

The slap of the leather, the smell of their sweat
Sings such a great song that I�ll never forget,
The drumming of shoes made of steel on the road
Echoes and echoes though buildings of stone.

Necks arched so proudly, their eyes dark and clear
Reflect the wan sunlight that filters down here
And flashes their courage, their strength and their might,
A team of great draughties in dawn�s early light.

The Sussex Street horses were visions of joy
So loved and remembered since I was a boy.
