Craven, they stare out
From their walled perch;
Hungered fiends
Thirsting for a soul
To call their meal.
Some creeping by
In thrown shadows;
Others assail the
Created winds and clouds;
Riding zephyrous steeds
To pursue their
Desired quarry.
Others reamin a
Tortured fixation
Of dire penalties
To be, later, unleashed.
But it is their
Cragged-tooth grins
And heartless screams
Which hold my attention
Rapt and prisoner.
Their eyes of bent flame
And forms of gaseous wafts
Burn and bury their
Infiltrating hunger
To my core of their desire,
Satiated only after feeding.
And 'tis such gracelss beings
Of such dubious nature
I have come to call
FRIEND.
