The male centaur canters in, discouraged and disappointed. He glances over at Tawny, his eyes telling her in a single momentary look that she, Mara, hadn't come back. Running his hand through his hair, he closes his eyes. Those eyes had once been filled with a light, a spark that made his eyes glimmer brilliant sapphire. Now they were the color of a dull, dark gray, no spark to light the fire. Close to collapsing, he lays down by the bank of a river, his head in his hands.
