It hadn't been hard for him to make the decision to leave behind the glorious Golden State for this place. A generous offer from the hospital here looking to add a rising star cardiothoracic surgeon to their roster had sealed the deal, and so he had packed up his penthouse and hopped on a place - gladly abandoning the sunshine of Los Angeles. He needed to get away from the materialism and the memories and to come somewhere completely different where he could start fresh. And this place was certainly something else. Born and raised amidst the bright lights of Manhattan, and then recruited out of his ivy league university into an internship at a hospital in LA, he had never been somewhere so... quaint. It actually seemed to suit him though and he already felt like he could make himself a home here. So, he was starting work on Monday and that left him with only three days to get himself acquainted with his surroundings, get settled in his new apartment, and to find himself a car - because he had left his last one back home with the past that he was trying so desperately to outrun. Rather than unpack though, he had left his things in boxes and hopped on a bus - something he had never really taken before - and found this place, the coffee shop that all the locals talked about. His multi-million dollar-a-year hands shoved into the pockets of his distressed, faded jeans, a black long-sleeved tee fitted to his lanky torso, and flip-flops on his feet - he looked nothing like the wealthy professional that he was. First things first, he headed over to the counter - just taking a quick glance around the dimly lit café - and ordered himself a straight, black coffee. Life had enough complications - he liked to keep his coffee as simple as possible.
