Subject: A PETITION TO SAVE THE JACKRABBIT
Hi All!
My name is Kirby. I own the website woodencoaster.com. I am holding a petition to save the beautiful Idora Park Jackrabbit. This petition can be viewed at http://www.woodencoaster.com/petition . We can save the Jackrabbit! Don't let them fool you, it's NOT a lost cause!

Re: A PETITION TO SAVE THE JACKRABBIT -- Long Time Idora Fan, 18:14:34 04/21/01 Sat
First all all the information on your web site is flawed. The Jack Rabbit is not the second oldest coaster in the world. It's 1924 constuction date doesn't even put it in the top ten. (The 1910 date was for the Dip The Dips, not the supposed reconstruction into the Jack Rabbit.)
Second of all, a petition will do nothing. People with better resources tried (and failed) to save the ballroom which could have potentially produce revenue. I know this will upset a lot of people that want to "save the park", but the time to "save the park" was before the auction in 1984.
If you have taken the time to actually visit the park you would know that the only thing salvagable on the coaster is the flywheel and a few other lift hill parts. The rest is beyond salvage, short of building a NEW coaster in its place.
We ALL have to face reality. The park is GONE and has been for a long time. Wishing it was still there cannot restore what was lost to appathy. The simple fact is few people cared about the park untill it was too late to "save" it.
No one remembers WHY the park went under in the first place.
It wasn't the fire that ended the parks life. It just brought the parks death a few years early. Remember, the park was for sale for a Million and a half before the fire.
Idora died, cherish the memories, but face reality, it is not coming back.

Re: A PETITION TO SAVE THE JACKRABBIT -- Agree, 19:16:03 04/22/01 Sun
I agree. In Ref: A petition to save the Jack Rabbit. I have spend alot of time at Idora as a child, but its gone and I have recently visited the site. The Jack Rabbit is so bad the wood is in such bad condition that it could not be saved. Thats all I have to say.

I also agree, while Idora will be missed, the recent ballroom fire in many ways gives closure to a park that died many years ago. Idora is dead. Long live Idora!

Re: A PETITION TO SAVE THE JACKRABBIT -- Milltime, 00:44:18 05/01/01 Tue
I grudgingly agree with the others here. The only thing that can be done...is to rebuild them from scratch using steel supports. And with everyone building high tech coasters lately....it looks even less likely. I'd love to be able to ride the Wildcat and Jackrabbit again....but if that is to happen...it'll be at another park! Plans to rescue these coasters fell through...including one last year also! And while I haven't seen the coasters since Idora was still in existence....I agree that just sitting there isn't helping. And with no park wanting these rides...they will continue to sit there till someone dozes them! I know your heart's in the right place...but a miracle is needed to save these Idora coasters. And miracles are in short supply in this town!
