Careless Page

I
The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.
The name that can be named is not the eternal name.
The nameless is the beginning of heaven and earth.
The named is the mother of ten thousand things.
Ever desireless, one can see the mystery.
Ever desiring, one can see the manifestations.
These two spring from the same source but differ in name;
this appears as darkness.
Darkness within darkness.
The gate to all mystery.

Hey guys, almost forgot about the original social networking sites...my my, ten years since insidetheweb.com fell. It's enough to make any teenager like myself feel...oh...yeah, I see your point. It HAS been ten years.

Anyway, hope you're all well on here. Gonna get back to work. Got two bands on the go at the moment. First band I've ever been in with a lady singer. Don't know why it took me so long to find one. Raw, but powerful. And there's a spinal tap style joke band just for kicks. Will let you know when something worth hearing is ready for consumption. Until then, hwyl fawr (have fun!)

  • Merry Xmas guys and girls -- Zoa (Excited), 03:00:22 12/16/07 Sun
As we say in the valleys of Wales - Nadolig Llawen a Hapus Newydd dda - which translates into Merry Christmas and happy new year.
Hope you and the family's good Rich. Hope Christmas goes smoothly for all, including you too Saba.
We're down Kris's flat at the moment where he's turned his spare room into a studio. As the newest member of White Dice, I've been playing my (Bass) part to bring four new songs to life. We're hoping to put a self-financed EP out next year and need just two more songs from the four available. Our Lead Guitarist, Gar, brought us a cracking song yesterday so we're pretty pumped. He then put on a wedding boob-tube and posed for some crazy photos. What's worrying is that there was no alcohol in the house at the time.
Rich, you'll have to send me your address so I can send you an official copy of the EP...and hopefully next year the DVD. You too Saba. No amateur band in South Wales has a DVD so we're trying to think of how feasible it is. In 2008 we hope to use guerilla marketing in public places by sending free MP3 'tasters' to mobile phones using Bluetooth. So next year we'll kick into overdrive.

  • How Liberals Lose Wars -- Richard, 19:52:37 03/20/06 Mon
OK, it's time for the truth. Ann Coulter has said it. Hundreds, if not thousands of anonymous internet posters have said it. The Swift Boat Veterans For Truth have said it. And now I, a liberal, am saying it.

    Liberals lose wars.

    Oh how they lose them!

First of all, in order to understand this simple, and obvious concept, we need to understand what a "war" is. Think of the American Civil War, better known as "The War Between the States." Men lined up and ran at each other while firing, bayonets attached, while cannons fired, lobbing artillery into the enemy lines. The object was simple. Kill the enemy before he kills you. But what was the true objective? To gain ground? To encroach upon and occupy the enemy's territory, and conquering him?

    Not really.

To force his surrender, and to have YOUR ideology triumph over his. It was a war of ideas, fought by men on the ground.

War is not chess. Chess is based on war, of course, and planning strategy within war can be a "chess match" between commanders, but the pieces are not simple ivory or plastic, inanimate objects with limited strategic value. The human pieces have feelings, and fears, and weaknesses, and may not always do as the commander had envisioned, for good or for bad. Their strategic value is much more fluid. Sometimes a knight may perform the actions of a rook, and so forth, and sometimes the piece may simply not do anything at all. You never know until the moment comes.

And that is what brings me to modern wars.

Class, can anyone tell me what the objective to the Vietnam Conflict was? It was not an actual war, of course, between the United States and North Vietnam. That would be ridiculous. We could just send in massive troops, air power, and tanks, and simply bomb them into submission, or even simpler, we could just annhilate them with nukes.

    BAM!

No more North Vietnam. We killed a country, and we won.

But that was not the objective to the Vietnam Police Action. The STATED objective was to contain the spread of Communism. Most of your modern day Vietnam Warriors who either did or didn't fight there, depending on whether or not they did or didn't, of course, may honestly believe that containing the spread of Communism was the actual act of physical containment. "You may not go beneath this parallel; or spread beyond that river."

    That is absurd.

Containing the spread of Communism is not that simple, as Communism is an IDEALOGY. It is a way of life. It is a political philosophy. So let me explain what the Vietnam Conflict was actually about.

In "Enter the Dragon," a man asks Bruce Lee's character "What's your Style?"

Bruce replies, "I practice the art of fighting without fighting."

    "Let me see," he demands.

"Later" says Bruce, waving the man off, and actually demonstrating his art without the man realizing it.

The Vietnam Conflict was the art of Fighting the USSR without fighting the USSR, just as the Korean Conflict was the art of Fighting the Chinese without fighting the Chinese. Confused? I'm sorry to tell you, but considering the simplicity of the terms I've used, you are probably a complete idiot, and need not read further. Sorry.

The fact is, the United States has a PR problem with the more desperate, evil nations of the world. We are seen as soft; spoiled; unwilling to send hundreds or even thousands of our best young people to their deaths for dubious causes. And that's where the Godless Barbarians have a serious advantage over us. They ARE willing to send hundreds or even thousands of their best young people to their deaths for dubious causes. Without hesitation.

Both the Korean and the Vietnamese Conflicts were wars of propaganda. Violent, REAL propaganda. They were exercises in showing the enemy that we were, in fact quite willing to send hundreds or even thousands of our best young people to their deaths for dubious causes.

And when the hippies, and the peace activists poked and prodded the American people into seeing that their best young peopel were being sent to their deaths for dubious causes, something extroardinary happened. The American People said "hey! We really don't LIKE it when you send our best young people to their deaths for dubious causes!"

And just like that, the war was lost.

The truth was out. The enemy had been right all along.

Now, I'm going to catch some flack for some of this, and here's where I insure myself against that. Let anyone who wishes to disparage my words spell out our specific objective in Vietnam. Did we wish to occupy North Vietnam? Did we wish to show the USSR what it's boundaries were in the East? Or did we, in fact, wish to show them that if they were BAD, we would fight them, no matter how much death and suffering it cost us? Was it NOT a simple show of strength and resolve, to remind the Plundering Reds just what a frightening and well-equipped enemy they were up against? Was it NOT a concerted effort to get out the message, "don't fuck with the USA?"

It was. And don't let anyone tell you different. I've read what these people have said on these internet forums for quite a few years; heard them rant on movie screens and in bars; on radio shows and in Right Wing newspapers, and they've been QUITE CLEAR:

Bill Clinton INSPIRED Osama Bin Laden when he pulled out of Somalia. His big sin, his big tactical error wasn't in letting some troops die. It was in letting the world know that having troops die was distasteful to the United States, just like we did when we LOST in Vietnam. He sent the message to terrorists and despots that we are not evil, cowardly, dictatorial, bloodthirsty freaks like they are, and that is showing WEAKNESS. And that's being liberal.

Liberals lose wars, because wars are simple exercises to demonstrate that we are unafraid of wasteful, horrible, needless death; that in fact, we celebrate it, and will gladly do it anywhere, any time.

That's what the war on terror is about. It's to remind the Osama Bin Ladens, and the Saddam Husseins of the future that the United States is NO PAPER TIGER. It's not enough that we have enough Hydrogen Bombs to destroy all life on Earth. It's not enough that we have the industrial and financial clout to create any number of planes, tanks, Weapons of Mass Destruction and nuclear submarines. None of that matters, because Abdul the Raghead Camel Jockey thinks Uncle Sam is a pussy. And as long as he thinks that, we are in grave danger.

Danger of having a bunch of ragtag maniacs willing to strap bombs on themselves kill us in small quantities, picking off a few of us here and there all across the world, and occasionally getting lucky, and killing large groups of us at public events, such as the Superbowl, or just going about our business in crowded cities.

The best way to prevent this, of course, is to bomb him back to the stone age, taking out countless women and children, and getting some bona fide bad guys in the process, and if a whole lot of our young have to die in order to do it, well then all that does is remind him that we are serious as Hell.

Liberals like to remind the General Public that THAT is what the mission is. Liberals like to look for nuance, and rational explanations in what is sheer madness. Liberals like to say "HEY!!!! Mr. and Mrs. Ordinary American!!!! They want to send your sons and daughters to their deaths to get their message across!!!!"

And that's how liberals lose wars.

And if anyone doubts it, I will find literally HUNDREDS of posts from Right Wing posters to this, and other forums, who will back up every word; EVERY SINGLE WORD of what I have said here.

    Good night, and good luck.

    -Richard Davidson

    Proud Liberal

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was a time for similarities, it was a time for opposites, it was dark, it was light, it was hot, it was cold, it was country, it was rock and roll. It was a boring time, it was an exciting time, it was a time when things were different, it was a time when things were the same, it was early, it was late, it was dangerous, it was safe, it was a time to kill, it was a time to heal, it was a time to cast away stones, it was a time to gather stones together. To everything turn, turn, turn. Hey Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me. I’m not sleepy, and there ain’t no place I’m going to. Dear Mr. Fantasy, play me a song; something to make us all happy. The thing that you’re hearing is only the sound of the low spark of high-heeled boys. The boys are back in town. Been hangin’ ‘round at Deano’s.

  • At the Tables of Swine -- Richard, 18:27:03 02/28/05 Mon
Hunter S. Thompson was born into a world where the sole lesson learned from WWII was that the Nazis' biggest mistake had been annoying the predator gods with their constant goose-stepping and propensity for error in the face of decisive battles that were to shape their very future. What sane man could look into the bloodshot eyes of those canine warrior dieties and compose the utter madness that would destroy the Third Reich in no more time than it takes to carve the heart from a poached elephant, and let its tusks rot along with the carcass in the hot African sun?

Imagine growing up in the safe, sanitized postwar culture, where every White man stood at the gate of tremendous opportunity, and around every corner lurked a deadly Communist, ready to make off with the daughters, and tempt the sons of our great nation, with a steady diet of dope, homosexuality, and bad tone-poems that could enslave the minds of capitalists with repetitive, meaningless drek. Who would save us from this swill? Who could prevent the occupation of America by depraved foreigners, anxious to turn stately homes into desperate hovels of disease and filth?

Obviously the job fell to the swine that reveled in the drunken all-night orgy that was the swearing-in ceremony to the power elite in Washington, and in the capitals of states all across the country. The army of freaks that had discovered the key to survival lay in controlling the masses with fear and pestilance; that group of grave-robbing ghouls who singlehandedly placed the heads of their forefathers on a pike, as a reminder to all that passed what awaited them should they fall out of step with the cold, grim reality so carefully painted by the terminally uncreative.

This was the world Dr. Thompson was born into, and at some point, he had to ask himself, "who are the watchdogs of this great cacophany of thieves and murderers?" and in some likelihood, he would have had to wonder if it weren't in fact, the Press. What is the divine purpose behind journalism? Is it to be an unseen fourth branch of government; to keep the people safe from the unchecked power of madmen and would-be kings; men bred for their office through careful selection of mutated genes; chosen for the raw degeneracy that would enable them to make the really big decisions without the unfortunate shackles of conscience, decency or morals?

How uncomfortable he must have been then, to witness the phony sucking up of those who had sworn an oath to truth, only to spend their free hours knocking at the doors of power; trying to find that fat free lunch that was available only to swine and those who handled them. How disquieting it must be to determine that no matter how much LSD one imbibes, the disconnect of sound and light could never paint a picture of Hell anywhere near the stupendous nightmare of the present landscape of bodies, secrets and broken dreams. What happens to a man's brain when he realizes that no matter how he soaks it in chemical overindulgence, he can never reach the level of murkiness attained by not only the population at large, but even more so, those who control them?

"Ye gods," he had to have thought to himself, "not only do these swine have our very lives in their bloody hands, but there will never be anyone who can stop them."

Stop them? And stop the party? That has to be the decisive blow in all of this. When the choices before you are the right to eat the food of the gods with gorgeous prostitutes or to hang from a tree limb in the public square, most will choose the obvious, and all who choose differently will have their sanity dismissed by the masses; possibly even themselves. Who can make the sacrifice that is truth? And if one man, or woman, makes the right choice, the larger question becomes "who will listen?"

Only that rare bird that can read between the lines, and find that deeper meaning lying right outside the door to madness; only that person who has courage, integrity, and not an ounce of common sense can make such a journey. No one who dines with diplomats and rich industrialists will walk so fine a path, nor will anyone who understands the meaning of fear. Look for your heroes wherever you can, but do not make the mistake of starting that search at the long wooden tables of the ever-feeding swine, who won't even bother to cook you.

Better to die alone in the darkest woods than to expose your throat to a pack of Hyenas. Let them take me after I'm dead, and not a moment sooner.

    Not to touch the earth

    Not to see the sun

    Nothing left to do, but

    Run, run, run

    Let's run

    Let's run

    House upon the hill

    Moon is lying still

    Shadows of the trees

    Witnessing the wild breeze

    C'mon baby run with me

    Let's run

    Run with me

    Run with me

    Run with me

    Let's run

The mansion is warm, at the top of the hill

Rich are the rooms and the comforts there

Red are the arms of luxuriant chairs

And you won't know a thing till you get inside

Dead president's corpse in the driver's car

The engine runs on glue and tar

Come on along, not goin' very far

To the East to meet the Czar

    Run with me

    Run with me

    Run with me

    Let's run

    Whoa!

Some outlaws lived by the side of a lake

The minister's daughter's in love with the snake

Who lives in a well by the side of the road

Wake up, girl, we're almost home

    Ya, c'mon!

We should see the gates by mornin'

We should be inside the evenin'

    Sun, sun, sun

    Burn, burn, burn

    Soon, soon, soon

    Moon, moon, moon

    I will get you

    Soon!

    Soon!

    Soon!

    I am the Lizard King

    I can do anything

Anyway, by next week we should have the official band website up. I'll post a like here and I'll link a page to the Careless page.

  • FIREFLyZ NEWS -- Zoa, 06:21:09 12/11/03 Thu
Merry Christmas guys! Soon be 2004...soon be 21...soon be doing a CD!
How are you guys? Rich, Rock 'n' roll and photography seems a familiar pattern. Music and images go well together.

Firstly, we've been trimmed down to a trio with the Guitarist and myself handling Vocals. After a charity gig last week (raising £700 to send a disabled kid to Miami to swim with the Dolphins) we've decided that I will be singing on an original as the Guitarist can't remember what I wrote.
Secondly, a digital studio has been set up in my room. Two demos with the work of a drum machine, a Warlock Bass and "Father Abraham" (my trusty Strat) have done the punky-Sabbathy "Baiting for blood" demo that I'm putting under the "Hysterical Death" banner that songs I write (that my band can't/won't play) will go under. We'll use the studio to make a CD (three songs and a hidden track that comprises of a Psycedelic jam that took place a few months back).
Lastly, I can report that my bass skills have improved so much that I'm jamming along with the Careless Abandon CD, Black Sabbath and even Queen...whilst doing some funky things. Rich, it's amazing what a few octaves can do in a bassline. Re-writing Paranoid's bassline may seem dangerous ground, but the whole point of playing a song your way is just that.
Anyway, I'll be back next week hopefully to report further. Keep the advent full of good Karma...you never know when you'll get it back!

  • Zoa's advice on aging -- Zoa, 07:27:05 07/01/03 Tue
Growing old: Be a retarded teenager all you life...works for me!

BTW guys, I'm bass player for a Soft Rock/Indie/Funk/doom crtossover band called the FIREFLyZ (we may have to change our name soon). Home demoing using Minidisks and kickass home recording techniques (microphone stand as high as the ceeling).
I am currently using 80 watts of Amplification (not that 80 watss means the same in every amp) and a kickass Vintage Jazz Bass...It's comforting and mind-blowing to know that I've been voted second best bassist in East Swansea...and we haven't done a proper gig yet!
We got a drummer, who throws Jazzy half beats into Billy Idol's "White wedding" (it's supposed to be a Punk song) and a Guitarist who can't play a Power-chord riff that well, but kicks ass on single note playing and PROPER chord playing.

Hope you guys are well, I am!

  • I Wandered Lonely as a Clod -- Henny Wordsworth Longfeller, 19:42:50 11/04/02 Mon
I wandered lonely as a clod,
That slurps low under sewers and streets,
When all at once I saw a god,
    A host, of golden deep fried treats;
Beside the scum, beneath the whores,
Gobbling and spitting in the doors.

Demented as the brains that fry
And sizzle on the lighted way,
    They lurched in ever-churning lie
Along the chorus line so gay:
Ten million saw the Grateful Dead,
Toss their lunch with dripping head.

The pimps beneath them belched; but then
Out-did the poorly dressed in Goth:
A plumber could not milk a hen,
Or turn a pumpkin to a Sloth:
I smoked and drank but little light
What idiots were not so bright:

For sometimes when my couch is bent
In vacant lots or alleys drab,
They dangle on that crumpled dent
    Which mourns the partridge on the slab;
And then my stomach makes such noise,
And lumbers with the ten foot boys.

    Soft in the breeze
    A whisper upon the night

I stand in perfect silent awe
My arms around my wife's waist
    As kittens play
    And run astray
So much they have yet to taste

And a mouse is running across the field
Unaware of the hawk circling near
    Unfazed by man
    It's nature's plan
That cat will first get him, I fear

    Such a playful, dangerous balance
    Our awareness, and our dream
    A gift so rare
    Yet everywhere
    A leaf upon a stream

Well, Isaac Hayes got inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame a few weeks ago, and performed "Shaft" with the Paul Schaeffer band, and some other cool players. It was the high point of Mr. Hayes' career, and I'm surprised how quickly it was followed by the low point.

Now he's not "talkin' bout Shaft," he's "talkin' bout SHAQ!" It's a damn Burger King commercial!

Oh well, I guess you cashes those checks ya can, right?

No harm, Isaac. I just have to hurry up and get to my "mute" button now.

Well, they pulled my free web hosting, so this page doesn't lead to anything at the moment. I'm going to try to get my domain transferred, but so far, everybody wants money to do that. Free web hosting is getting harder and harder to find. If anyone knows of a way to get http://www.carelessabandon to a different server for free, or a one-time (not monthly) charge, please post the info here. As for you, Rebecca, I am a happily married man, and don't need to meet new "friends" on the internet. On the positive side, though, I did meet my wife on the internet, so I'm sure you'll do fine.

I watched "rock familly trees" the other day. First there was the British rhythm and blues familly tree which led off into two. The R+B tree (with the Yardbirds, Manfred Mann, Cream) and the Fleetwood Mac tree, so it's nice to see that if you trace Fleetwood Mac, Led Zepplin, Cream, Jeff Beck Group, Manfred Mann and half a dozen bands back though the years, they meet up somewhere.
Makes the rock world smaller, but more of a familly. And it was fun to hear that Jeff Beck left the Yardbirds coz Jimmy Page was too good at his solos. Tee hee

I appreciate the conversation. I hope you will continue to post away to each other, for I will not be around much in the upcoming weeks. I am moving to Indiana a week from Friday, and will be dismantling my apartment, and at some point, my computer desk. My internet service expires on the 31st, and I haven't made new arrangements yet. I'm going to be so busy, I probably won't be posting, but you know me, if I get on at all, I'll try to drop by.

If any of you didn't know, my future wife awaits me down there, (we're getting married July 15th,) so why would I be on the internet? You know what I like? I like KISSING! (and all those things associated with it.) I told her, (as would the Fonz,) to get those lips warmed up, and I wasn't kidding! So keep up the jams, people, and I'll try to look in on y'all!

  • Bullying (an addition to my message concerning the relies to the post I made earlier on about tighter gun laws) -- ZoaLord, 10:40:47 03/19/01 Mon
I think that no-one can comment on the bullying of todays evil levels without understanding that the levels of the past are far different to todays.
Since the whole concept of high school stereotypes has been exploited by a hungry media, then the weaker, less fortunate people who are placed into these stereotypes have been victims of a cruel social game of "survival of the fitest" where these weakest (the so-called "geeks", "nerds", ect) are picked on worse then ever because the Media uses terms of abuse (and negative attitudes) that have obvious connotations of "geeks" (my example : "Killer nerd had 5 guns"). The media in it's "why should we justify ourselves, we're always right and never wrong" attitude are except from judgement, therefore people think that the media are RIGHT to use these terms and the close-mindedness that goes with it in a reality situation, therefore everybody can and should do it.
For example, is it right that in a "civilised" society a school kid, who goes to school to learn, is picked on for any reason? No, the kid should be safe and secure as any other student there, so why some kids are inferior to other kids superiority is a mystery to me. The typical example is the "Jock vs. Geek" situation, it may be hyped but when a school sports hero is given a superiority complex, and the school is it's pride for the hero does nothing to help the situation, then something is bound to happen, and usually it's the weakest who are the first to suffer.
Sometimes, if the student is strong enough, the bullying helps to create some resistant feelings in the victimised mind, but there's no guarentee that it always happens. Sometimes only negative emotions, thoughts and feelings are created. They are usually directed internally (with paranoia, lack of self esteem, no feeling of worth and in extreme situations suicide), externally (hatred for opressors and/or sympathizers, hatred of ideals that made them a victim) or both (this is my case, at the age of 11 until I was 15 I was paranoid, self hating and felt very little worth, while developing a hatred for anything oppresive and I loathed anything that wanted people to change to suit other people). I believe the killers fit into any catogory and they just want revenge to ease the pain. Unfortuantley, too many innocent people who had nothing to do with the bullying get hurt.
OK, there is no justification for walking into a school and taking a human life if it didn't wrongfully endanger yours, but it's not like there's much choice if the seriously bullied kid's pain won't eases. I don't support it, but I don't and will never act like the emotionally and mentally unbalnced student killers were inhuman monsters.

  • It takes a village to raise a child -- Celtic Enchantress, 13:15:24 03/17/01 Sat
I wonder what happened to that? I don't know about y'all, but I remember those days!! Even living overseas where we did, the families in the housing area looked out for each other's kids. If one did something wrong, they caught it all they way down the block back to their own house!! When we moved here....do something wrong, you caught it from every parent on the way ..and then as you walked in the door at your own house...your mother was talking to someone on the phone about what you did and you caught it worse with them listening on the line!!! It kept alot of kids straightened out and out of trouble!! Child molesters weren't allowed to move into a neighborhood with children. Usually they weren't heard from when they left jail if they survived that. So what gives?

Yet again another bulied kid takes a gun to his school and gets revenge. You know me, I deteste death but I also deteste people who bully in anyway at all.
I ask you all to never touch a gun except if it's for a good reason. I'll leave the good reason up to your common sense, but remember: Common sense is not regulated, it has no laws to keep it in check and no one can judge another person by their standards. Just try and be cool to one another, treat anyone who's different with love and respect rather than bigotry and make the human race a cooler thing.
