So true, too often we have let societies priorities influence us as to what success really is. Success is a happy home with protective parents that take the time to spend quality time with their children. Success is parents that actually listen to their kids whether small children or teens. Believe it or not, teens are even more insecure then a young child as they are going through changes that they are not sure of, they have been influenced by peers and tv,and commercials and lack of parental guidance to the degree of believing that unless they have a certain brand of shoe, clothes or whatever that they won't be accepted for their own individual potential. Society has dictated that unless a child is rail thin with a face like JonBenet or for a young man if he doesn't resemble Leonardo DiCaprio or one of the Backstreet Boys then he is doomed to mediacrocy (SP?) ....or worse.
We all know about peer pressure and all that, been there and done that. I believe that if we put our kids first and not our portfolios or bank accounts we will notice a big difference. I myself am trying to get back to being a published writer if for no other reason, to be available for my kids. I spent the last 10 years chasing that ever elusive 6 figure salary and foolishly put my family on the back burner being what's called a weekend mom. Being off work (Laid off) and seeing my kids more now in the past month and a half then I have in the last 3 years I see what they have been missing. And job be damned! I'm here for them!!! I may go through several jobs but dammit my kids come first !!! I may not ever reach that previously coveted salary....I'll have something more, my kids back!! I myself was also very selfish and self serving. But when my kids are here I know where they are and what they are doing and who they are with. I gotta go, promised them a quick trip to Walmart!
Peace and BLessed be to you and yours
