Someone needs to put a bucket of cold water on Stephon Hannah, because this kid is red hot. The senior guard dropped in a double-double of 19 points and 10 steals in keeping Hyde Park undefeated with a 61-48 win over feisty Austin at the Panther Pre-Holiday Shootout in Hillside. A stretch of five consecutive steals which led to 8 points sealed the deal for the Indians, now 6-0. One impressive young man that lit everyone's eyes up was Marquis Young, the 6-9 sophomore who swatted seven shots and hauled down 11 rebounds.

Von Steuben won the 'Battle of the Panthers' with a 71-61 victory over host Proviso West. Angel Santiago dropped in 22 points on the day to go along with four assists and three steals; Ryne Hamblet added 16 points and a game-high seven assists.

In the nightcap, Sterling Williams had a game-high 29 points, but it wasn't enough as Proviso East held off Whitney Young 68-60. In the game, Phillip Perry led three P-E players in double figures with 27 points and three steals; Nick Brown added 16 and Jeremiah Wise contributed 11. Laird Walker paced the Dolphins with 19.
