For the record, "Comic books and related media are very popular right now" has been a fact for DECADES.

If what you say is correct, I'd say the PG's search for readers in a declining market for newspapers overall is in worse shape than some of us thought it was. And it's fact that while the PG has had some extremely rough financial patches and no doubt continue to, their drops in circ have been far less precarious than the double-digit drops other papers have, taken together.

But the PG "snagging younger readers?" Not working. Not gonna work. How many young readers? Half a dozen? Tell me how that makes up much change to the ad base. Who of these new readers will be reading for any length of time? And any new interest is sure to be online, not print

Cat's Call, Sam Bennett's increasingly incoherent work, certain of the blogs are all specifically aimed at younger demographics. The quality is uniformly horrible

The quality issue of the PG's for-the-youngsters stuff tells me it's a cynical move on the part of the Blocks, who care more about Shribman's and Simpson's Weekly Sermons from the Mount than they care about younger readers. I have no reason to doubt Diana Block's motives for leaving: to spend more time with her kids. Sadly, with her departure, they lost having someone on deck every day clearly more attuned to the perspective and lifestyle of younger adults than JR Block, Shribman and the others ever will be. I think JR was born middle-aged.
