It's a time-honored practice to close practice and limit the media's access during the week before the big games. Not taking sides, but that's a fact. BTW: Paterno limited the media's access to the coach and players to one day a week during his entire time at Penn State, regardless of the opponent. Limiting access to players cuts into the number of stories written during the week. Stories are like free ads for the schools. They increase interest, help sell a few tickets. That's important to Pitt, which is always trying to increase interest/attendance. PSU, sells 100,000-plus for all games and could care less about the media's desires/needs.
