He had been teaching journalism courses at Pitt for years, maybe even since he got to the Trib. Unless it has change, Pitt has no real journalism department and relies on professionals in the business to teach everything but the 101 courses.

Rodenbush never wanted to be a desk guy. He interviewed at the Trib for a writing position and was beaten out by somebody who is now long gone. They let him write some, but a lot of writing openings have come and gone and he was still on the desk.

No idea if he was fired or finally had enough, though.
