I don't think they're dumping interns at all. They're giving them something to do in their spare time at work, while they wait for callbacks, while they're sitting at home bored.

Of course, they are only offering this to the interns to try to scoop up some younger readership online and to steal their ideas while letting the interns think they're really that special.

Just a theory, of course.
