It's pretty clear to me what you think, Gute. The PG is a paper convinced it can better define itself in a changing and turbulent market by playing primarily to the affluent, the super-educated and the elite, not to all ends of the spectrum of their dwindling readership. What Millman filed from her trip is not so absurd as the editorial snobs who think a huge swath of PG readers WANT or CARE about her nonsense, and I am speaking of her entire approach from the time she arrived at the paper, with her "all about me" restaurant reviews and that patently offensive lecture on what Yinzers should tip which proved why she has no place at the paper.

Would it not be a better use of her talent to reserve Her Highness's ultrachic foodie ramblings for SEEN Magazine? There she'd be more at home and not feel this need to talk down to her readers, the sort of patronizing crap your posts, Gute, tend to rationalize, which is certainly your right. I welcome your comments since they validate the paper's growing snottiness, which has ramped up in the Shribman/Block Twins era. Clearly the growing amount of such material allows everyone to pat themselves on the back for being "better than the Trib." That might not be enough to hang on, and to think things have improved under current editorial leadership is ridiculous. Is Shribman going out into the region asking readers what they want in the future? No. It might interfere with his writing that awful Sunday column, where he gets to play a bush league Broder.

No one disagrees Scaife childishly uses his papers like a Super Soaker on his personal and political enemies, and that the editorial quality there is spotty under the best circumstances, often flat-out amateurish. What is troubling is the growing sense of distance between the PG and its readers, from the top down. It's basically a "we know what's best for you" mindset that's a bit too off-putting. As the paper struggles to survive, that disconnect isn't helping, despite your smug defenses of the status quo.
