Ligonier is extremely cliquish. Outsiders have a tough time fitting in there, so many families are so deeply rooted. Any editor they had would have to be a local. I'm not sure some of those folks there would like anyone as an editor who wasn't born and raised there or had at least lived there for a LONG time. Lord knows there's enough big, old money up there to buy the Echo. But it's hard to imagine Scaife, as weird as he is, would want to sell it--ESPECIALLY since he lived up there and I think still has a home in the area. There's a local blog there called "Ligonier Living" that tries to fill in where the Echo left off. It's trite, silly and self-indulgent, run by a local real estate person and full of friends' posts about nothing. But their disgust for the Echo's decline is palpable.

And you're right: that WOULD piss Scaife off!
