Zito jumped onto the scene by saying the media and others take Trump literally but not seriously, while his peeps take him seriously but not literally. If there is a kernel of truth to that, fine, and it is a pithy turn of phrase, which many in the media have jumped on and referred to. Until you look at it.

Why should not people take Trump literally? If you can't trust his literal words, because they are nonsensical or lies, then how good is the guy, and what would be the reason for trusting him at all? If you don't take him literally, are you endorsing and encouraging falsehood, dishonesty and lies?

And do his people who take him seriously but not literally have no appreciation for the fact they are thereby endorsing his falsehoods and lies, or, should one conclude they are fine with all his lies because they seriously want him in the Oval Office so badly? If you ask them what he is going to do in the White House, what do they say? We don't take him literally?

What they really seem to be saying is we like the guy and want to elect him, and it doesn't bother us that he lies all the time and we have no idea what he will do. That seems to be this great Trump movement. Sheep who want someone they like to take them here, there, anywhere, even to all manner of bigotry and xenophobia. And isn't that disgusting?
