Hey there. I just bought my 2001 GSXR 1000(with 623 miles on it) and it has that engine noise too. It sounds like a loose valve or something, but it goes away after speeding up a bit. Can't hear it when you rev the motor in neutral though. Otherwise, what a bike!!! No shifting problems here though.
