There is a metal tang that is connected to both the float valve and float. This needs to be bent to give the correct float height as stated in your workshop manual. From the Grey Riders Network database; the correct float level for the GSX600F/Katana should be 0.57 inch 1988-1997 and 0.51 inch 1998-2001.
