Sounds like you must have a Suzuki. The F1 light comes on when a code is triggered by the exhaust valve in the muffler. Do you have aftermarket exhaust? If not, the cables may just need to be adjusted. This happened to my 06 GSXR 1000. Sometimes people cut one of the wires running to the ECM to eliminate this light from coming on. Hope this helps.
