Subject: I have a problem with Vista and/orIE 8, not sure which.............inside
I'm hoping someone here can help. When you open up a webpage, instead of it completely filling the monitor screen, it only open up about 1/4 the size of the monitor. Not a huge problem really, but irritating none the less. If anyone here knows what to do to stop this, feel free to shoot me an e-mail. Thanks.

right click on the ie icon, choose properties, click the drop down arrow beside the run field and choose maximize

Every version of IE up to now had the same fields. Possibliy vista has changed this. I am running IE8 on windows xp and when I right click on the blue e icon whether it be on the desktop or the quicklaunch bar and go to properties, I find a drop down arrow that allows me to choose "maximized". I have found this to be the case in previous versions of IE and of Windows. If you can't get there from your IE icon in Vista, maybe that explains why is was such an unpopular version of Windows!!! -- CC, 19:26:41 09/07/09 Mon [1]

I don't have Vista. I too have IE8 and XP. However, I prefer Mozilla (hate IE). I'm just curious because I occasionally use IE. When you choose properties, which tab are you on? When I have IE open, and I right click on the bottom task bar, THEN there is a maximize option, but I don't have to click properties to get that. So I'm just curious about your instructions.
My IE and Mozilla never open up maximized on my computer, but that's because I prefer them to open in the size that I made them to be the last time. They seem to "remember" that size and placement, and the next time I open them, they are the same. So I don't know why bama is having that problem, unless she is leaving IE at the size it opens at. If I happen to maximize my browser, and then close it, the next time I open it, it remembers it and opens up maximized. So I would think that once bama maximizes IE, it should be that way the next time. If it's not, then I don't know why she is having that problem, unless it truly is a Vista issue. Or maybe I didn't understand the question.
DH has Vista and I don't like it. I don't have time to learn something so different than before. I pick things up pretty quickly and had no trouble migrating to XP. But I find Vista to be very frustrating. If I can't work at the speed I'm used to (which is usually about 100 miles per hour! LOL), then I get very annoyed. DH just got Windows 7 or whatever the new thing is (I think it might be a beta version?) and it seems to be a little friendlier than Vista.

Don't open IE. You just right click on the icon and it gives you a menu and properties is the bottom choice in that menu. In the properties window is where you can find the option to run the window maximized. -- CC, 17:23:29 09/08/09 Tue [1]

Oh, I see! You are clicking on an IE shortcut icon. I am clicking on the actual IE icon. When I do properties on mine, there is no shortcut tab, I made a shortcut IE icon and when I rightclicked on it and selected properties, the window that popped up had a shortcut tab and I see what you are talking about now. If it is a shortcut icon, it will have a little arrow in the bottom left of the icon. If it is the actual icon for the program, it won't have that little arrow.
I'm surprised you have a shortcut icon for IE, because when you install Windows, it puts a real icon for IE on your desktop for you. Most other programs put only shortcut icons on your desktop.

I actually don't use a desktop icon at all, I use quicklaunch. But regardless of where I launch IE, even from the program menu, I always get the same tabs. Maybe that is a difference created by Vista? Sorry I couldn't help. After all, we always want to launch Harm in his largest possible state! ;)

I don't use Vista either. The quicklaunch would be a shortcut icon, so that would definitely explain why your menu is the way you say. Anyway, it doesn't matter because I wasn't the one with the problem anyway. lol I actually prefer my browser windows to open up in the "sized" form the way I made them. I think once bama maximizes her window it should open up that way in the future. I initially was under the impression that she was maximizing her window but it was still opening up resized the next time, but I don't think that was actually the case. -- JJ (Ronda), 04:57:09 09/11/09 Fri [1]

Forgive me if this is way below your level of knowledge. On the upper right hand corner of your IE window, there should be 3 boxes. The left one should be like a "minus" sign and it will "minimize" your window down to the task bar. The right one should be an "X" where you close your window. The middle one determines the size. It toggles between full screen (maximized) and a smaller size. Click on that button and it will maximize your window. Close IE and reopen it and see if that works.

Tried all the suggestions and none of them worked, even went online. Finally found a free download of a program called "auto sizer". Downloaded it and it worked great. No more manually expanding the window. Thanks for all the suggestions anyway. -- bama, 21:05:48 09/17/09 Thu [1]
